Message 7424 - Posted: 13 Jul 2004, 23:22:37 UTC - in response to Message 7413.

Right the jobs are just sitting under the "transfers" tab waiting to be uploaded.

I had been getting those 26 hour jobs so I increased my cache to prevent my machines from running out of work.....

....but, I got burned by setting my cache back to 2 days when they inadvertatly sent me a 4 hour job and I read a post that said the incorrect times were fixed.

Now when this happened today I did not have enough jobs in the cache to last half a day.

The room is hot from all the CPU's but the only work I can process for seti is measuring the time until my next upload "retry"

I will keep more work on hand from now on!

Now it's getting strange...

I'm getting:

when the client trys to DL a WU.

I wonder if they deleted the WU's with bogus times, but the DB/scheduler is trying to send them out!

This is what I've been getting when I can connect to the server, it's been a problem all day. I'm down to my last WU on 2 of my machines and the other 2 machines have 5 WU's between them to work on. Don't know what the problem is but it would be nice if they added a link on the Home page to show any problems and what they are doing about it. I'm going to switch back to Seti1 when I run out.

Yeah, the servers must have crapped bad somewhere. I got burned on the caching too - even though I set it for 3 days, I was going through my cache every 21 hours. Everything has been smooth this weekend - didn't give it a second thought. Ooops.

Bah humbug! I got burned badly with this server outage. I had a nice healthy cache going and everything was humming along nicely. I took apart my computer for some maintenance. When i put hooked it back up, I couldn't download or upload work. Thinking something had gone screwy, I hastily detached and (re)attached. BAM, no work for me. A lesson learned i guess, just go with the flow.

Also, will installing a newer version of BOINC clear your cache? If so, now would be a good time for me to do that seeing as there's nothing in my cache to be cleared.

I upgraded before I had run dry of WU. Cache was not lost.

Don't feel bad, I lost a couple of hundred WU's last night because of a power outage. When I got my PC's back running the Boinc GUI wouldn't recognize that fact that I had WU's cached. Over at the Predictor Site they said it's a known problem that they are working on...

Installing a new version does not clear the cache. You need to shut down the GUI and overwrite the existing soft with the new one.

Well I switched to Predictor@Home on 1 machine and forgot about my cache setting for Seti and got a huge amount of WU's now I'll have to wait for Predictor to finish or dump the files when I can get more from Seti. I don't want to dump the Predictor's files wouldn't be fair to them to have to resend the WU's I have in cache. Oh well live and learn. I did get some WU's for 2 of my other machines the 3rd one still working Seti classic (learned lesson about joining 2 projects at same time).

Might be me, but Predictor is a Beta test, why don't you set your preferences for that machine to a seperate preference than your normal one then? Say a cache of between .1 and .5 days, instead of your normal request?

That way you won't get as many a huge amount of Predictor units.

I did and it changes for all BOINC projects. Because I'm just like everybody else I like to keep my Seti WU's full because of the numerous server problems. Most of the time I can ride out the prodlems and reconnect to the servers when they are working. Happy crunching to you all. Hope you can get WU's also I've now got all 4 machines running again hopefully they have the server problem fixed and now it's just because everybody is hitting the server for WU's that they have just run out for a short time.
