I downloaded boinc_4.19_powerpc-apple-darwin and folled the instructions to program it in text editor and run in terminal. It will not run. I get the following error:

Welcome!

It looks like you have two problems: One is a permissions issue, and another is the problem with the shell script you're running. It looks as if you're executing the client (BOINC app) as if it were a shell script.

I think you'll find it easier if you download the BOINC Menubar. The client and project apps (Like SETI) will run from the Manager. The benefit is that you won't need to muck about in Terminal, and you'll be able to skirt around the permissions problem.

I was a computer programmer 20 years ago, but this problem got my goat. Your suggestion to download BOINC Menubar was the solution. I don't know why it works but at this point I won't worry. I am online and working. Thank you!

NA's suggestion is a good one! Now that you have it running, you might go take a look at this for a way to use the optimized version of BOINC with Menubar. Scroll down to the 10th entry (by Mikkyo) and follow his instructions. BTW, don't forget to Stop Menubar first...
