Hi all, I've tried BOINC 4.25, 4.30 an 4.32 (= 4.35) for some hours but switched back to 4.19 because of problems connecting to the project servers. All those versions do not connect to the network. I'm using an ADSL modem. In contrary, BOINC 4.19 works without problems. Any idea what could solve my problems ? Regards from Austria, Franz |

If your running a software firewall, make sure its set to permit the new version of BOINC to call out. It should ask you if a new program asks for a connection, but perhaps someone clicked no by accident or something. |

It's called CyberArmor Personal Firewall. What are the different settings compared to BOINC 4.19 ? |

I'm not sure of this, so some network guru correct me. Doesn't boinc v4.2X use port 31416 and 4.19 use some other port? |

Port 1043. Port 31416 was pre-IANA registration. And thanks for the "Guru" compliment! :-) |

With v4.2x and later both Boinc.exe and Boincmgr.exe need firewall permission. 98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8 And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer. |

When you start using a new version of BOINC, the firewall should ask you whether or not to grant it permission. The easiest fix is probably to simply delete every BOINC program listed and let it start again. Or you could try adding the new version manualy. How you would actualy do this I dont know, but the programs help file should have the info you need. If you have a hardware firewall as well, then you may need to open port 1043, consult your ADSL modems manual to see if it has a built in firewall, unless you have a seperate router/firewall, in which case check the manual for that. |

I use ZoneAlarm free version, after every install of BOINC I need to re-authorize both BOINC Manager and boinc.exe during the first run after the install. Live long and crunch! Paul. |

But it seems that I didn't specify my problem as I should. BOINC 4.19 connects to the servers if necessary without problems. After communication the line is dropped. Starting with BOINC 4.25 this doesn't work anymore. Only the first attempt to go online is done correctly. Once the line is dropped it remains dropped. However, once the PC is online (i.e. when establishing the connection manually), all communications are working fine as long as the PC is online. |
