Hi, I've just goten an older DEC 2000 Alpha server up and running, and I'm looking for any advice that anyone has to give... I'm attempting (with little success) to put NT on it, but I've got the origional open VMS software and liscenses.... I'd like to make it into a cruncher.... has anyone here played with these much? any advice? <img src="http://teamstarfire.org/boinc/summary.php?name=Dwarlock&team=Kansans%20Searching%20for%20a%20Planet%20With%20People%20More%20Interesting%20Than%20This%20One&seti=7832952&cbg=grey"> |

(You would also have to compile BOINC yourself, since a Win_Alpha version is not provided, only a Win_x86) |

it's got 128 meg, and I'll go through the install again to get the error code, basicaly I'm getting fairly well into the nt install (4.0) and then getting a fatal error (blue screen) I'll pay better attention and get the actual point of failure, and the code on my next attempt. <img src="http://teamstarfire.org/boinc/summary.php?name=Dwarlock&team=Kansans%20Searching%20for%20a%20Planet%20With%20People%20More%20Interesting%20Than%20This%20One&seti=7832952&cbg=grey"> |

Dwarlock, if my memory doesn't fail me, or hasn't already, there should be a fatal exception code when it presents the blue screen... been a long time... that might help you . No matter where you go, there you are... |

I'd probably unplug optional components for the NT install (I assume you're installing the Alpha NT, not the Intel NT).. so unplug some external scsi cards, and network cards until you get NT running. You also should have a plethora of bios menus to go through to set up the thing. |
