This morning, I noticed on 5 of my 13 computers, that the cpu time was not advancing after observing each up to a minute. After exiting Boinc and restarting, each were normal. After 2 hours I checked again and they were still ok. I don't understand why this should happen and not be able to discover anything wrong with the program or the computers.

May be the boinc manager or boinc view you were using lost connection to the PCs. So they carried on crunching but were not seen by the manager. When you restarting the manager/view the connections were re-made so all was fine again. Theory only i might add but plausible.
