Hi all.
I'm an old seti classic cruncher who decided finally to take a try at BOINK. Still crunching classic on the main PC. Hoping for 99.5% before they shut down.
At 7000 results. Might just make it.
Anyways......
Amazingly from the looks of all the postings, I was able to get it up and running without a hitch. Even during the disaster weekend and evenings a few weeks back.
I have one question though about CPU times.
Mine seem to be all over the place.
For example, today during the day running unattended with network access disabled, there were five units completed.
The CPU times are all over the map though.
2:09:58
1:16:04
2:30:26
0:01:09
and
2:39:00
That's not a typo One Minute 9 Seconds

With classic, the unit sizes were always the same and the time they took to run was always the same within a reasonable percentage.

Is the work unit structure fundamentally different with BOINK ?
Also all units not started show a 5:33:44 to complete.
None has ever taken that long.

Just wondering if someone had an explaination for the clueless.

Steve M

Welcome to BOINC!

That's actually normal for BOINC-ed SETI WUs. The 9-minute-er is probably one of those "gunky" WUs from waaay back that are resurfacing.

Also, the estimated time until completion isn't anywhere near accurate... think of it as a very very very worst-case scenario. It'll never take that long.

Good luck with the transition.

Actually, that was 1 Min 9 Seconds LOL.

Thanks for the reply.

I like those sig stats you all use.
But I took a look at one of the stats sites.
How clunky is that ?!?! Took me 20 min to find myself.
Next 100, Next 1000 pffffffftttt.

I kinda liked the classic born on day stat page.
I'm currently 30 on the classic one. Easy to find too.

( Ramble Mode Off )

Again. Thanks

On boincstats.com, you just have to type in your username
On the one I use (boinc.mundayweb.com) you have to register, and then put in your UIDs for the projects.

Oh, and welcome to BOINC.

I've had units for CPDN report being done after 00:00:30; they errored out. For Seti, usually a short unit will be indicative of a noisy unit "too much noise to continue" -- keeps you from wasting valuable cycles crunching something that's not usable

As the others have said, welcome to BOINC ...

As BOINC is, ahem, slightly more complex than SETI@Home Classic, I have tried to gather some of the more interesting bits of trivia together for people to use to make the transitions easier ...

Many other people have found one or two answers there ... if not, you can also ask here ... or in an e-mail ...

That was good to see.
I went to the BoinkStats.com page and couldn't (Yet) find how you produced that link to the user since date. Hmmmmmmm
As someone else pointed out, it's all somewhat more complex now.
Thanks for the update.
I'll figure it out eventually.

If you search on your name to get the basic stats page, then click on the icon to the side with the graph, you then get another page with detailed information.

Once there, you can see a link part way down that is for you class ...

jsut click on links to get a feel for the data and how it is presented.

Start here : Detailed statistics for "Steve MacKenzie"

Then click on "Link to detailed SETI@Home statistics" and you'll see a link to your signup date stats.

It's BOINC (Computing) not BOINK (Komputing)

In all honesty, it should be `RFL` or `RotFL`.

>> Who's calling me a geek?

Think of it as a term of endearment... to other geeks ;-)

In all seriousness, I'm amazed at what can be done with
what used to be just a set of figures.

Oh... as everyone knows......

"The Geeks shal inherit the earth"
