Hang on a sec... I thought we had something like 800,000 users based on the user IDs? Nevertheless, it's a good enough excuse for me to break open some champagne. !-D |

Many of those accounts are long since dead, and many were repeats where someone lost an ISP and had to open a new classic account. The number of active classic users was around 500,000 to 600,000 or so for much of the period. Thus, given that BOINC stats sites only include users who have successfully returned a workunit, a 1/5 to 1/6 ratio is probably more appropriate. |

> The two sites do not agree on any thing lololol I see your point... :) Wonder wich one's correct? BOINCStats and BOINC Synergy seems to be in agreement though... Maybe Berkeley could beef up their own stats page a bit, just to show a few more official totals? |

They had to have a puter just to sign > up, did they not? > I suspect this has something to do with a change Berkeley have made to the way hosts are merged. There is a note in the development mail-list that David Anderson has made a change to 'Zombify' old hosts. Immediately after this was done there was a massive drop from 220,000 hosts to 94,000. The participant count must also include users who have never returned a WU. The true (active) participant count must be somewhere between 30K-60K. Umm interesting, On the stats page that I got the figure of 94,000 hosts from (for the past 48hrs), the # Hosts has suddenly sprung back to 232,00 hosts. A glitch no doubt. Better news though. |

Hmmm... BOINC doesn't seem to get so many new crunchers every day as I anticipated. The classic S@H is generating twice as many new participants each day! (See users last 24 hours column) The notice, about switching to BOINC, on top of the classic home page is too small to get noticed, IMO. And it's not informative enough either. It should say something more about the pros (and cons?) of converting. As the classic project comes nearer and nearer to a close, we risk to loose a whole bunch of crunchers who don't convert in time... |
