Will overclocking lower the amount of CS you receave per WU?
And will it damage the results of the WU?

It's hard to say Jaaku, I'm sure some people have already tried it and know. Without being able to get into your results and see what you are getting for Claimed & Granted Credit you really can't compare the differences ... I don't think it would damage the WU only just run them faster ... IMO

Jaaku,

I am not sure whether or not overclocking will have any effect on your
credits/WU, but depending on how much you overclock your machine, it could
produce erroneous data. I flirted with overclocking on several of my machines,
and found that the Intel platforms were much more forgiving than AMD platforms as far as overclocking, but I have found that on either platform, without going to extremes like liquid cooling or TEC cooling, about 5 to 7 percent is the highest I could go without the machine becoming unstable after a few days, and trashing my Windows install. I would say, overclock at your own risk. Happy crunching!

Daniel.

Hard to tell if this will have an influence on your claimed credit as it will higher the benchmark result but will lower the CPU time. Therefore, it is not sure your claimed credit will change.

On the other hand, it will not have an influence on your granted credit as it is the mid value of 3 claimed credits.

Greetings from Belgium.

Agree Poorboy, but uhmmmmmm,
Benchmark results will be overwritten afterwards in a couple of days by running automatically.

Hi

I have an AMD XP 2500+ running at 2100 Mhz and have the same Benchmark result as an XP 2800+.
No problems since over one year Beta Test.
But i think a to high frontside bus can bring some trouble.

==============

My Pc's do their Auto Benchmarking on Friday mornings it seems, so it's not that hard to plan ahead and prepare for it by turning back the CPU to it's regular speed before hand. Plus there's always the way to manually Benchmark and Update if the Auto Benchmark slips by you ... The only thing that a Auto Benchmark that you didn't catch would do is to add a host that your not using in your Account.

Something to be aware of is that highly overclocked machines may appear to be stable in day to day operation, but their floating point arithmetic units start to be unreliable. You could start submitting bad science.

Just a heads up.

Nice. I've put lots of extra cooling in my machine and the best I've been able to do with my 3.06GHz machine is about 3.4GHZ at 45C. The only time I can get it down to 34C is when Seti's not running.

I can run my 3.06 P4 @ 3.450 Ghz with just Fan cooling if I want to,I run a 150/30 FSB ... it run about 47C at that speed when running BOINC Seti ... it will run a little cooler running Seti Classic though ...

If your result does not agree with two others, it will be rejected, and you will get no credit for it.

My cpus a pentium 4 B 533Fsb, it been to 3.46GHZ before (in winter) and had to raise the voltage to 1.6, and the temperature reacher 42Cmax while running SETI. and its still air cooled but not suprising with the best HSF i could find and 5x80mm 1x120mm 2xpsu 1xgraphics and cpu fans :D

Yep. It's just false economy to "doctor" your benchmarks. It's the real world operating conditions we're looking for here folks.

if you overclock your CPU make sure that Prime is working right, minimum 12 Hours i think, only for Info, to make sure your Computer is working right, and without Problems.

What is the gain?

5% more 10% more? more more?

is there a need to by every 6 month new power supplies or new fan unit?
what is your loose:
keeping watching and watching, bibbering if not to hot an spend a lot of
time.
If you want speed, then simply add an other pc...

a 2000MHz and a 1000 MHz together makes more throughtput than an
"stressed" 21xx

It's summertime also, take a walk around, look at the sky and
enjoy to know the couples of pc can run alone and stable and faithfull
