Not a complaint, just didn't know where to report the bug. :)

Whenever i click "show graphics" on a work unit using version 4.10, it immediately goes to 100% complete and gives a Client Error. I've had 3 of these so far, and i have not previously had Client Errors of any kind on this machine. The current work unit appears to be processing fine, as long as i don't choose to display graphics. Feel free to take a look:

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=664100

Is anyone else experiencing this?

My video is an onboard Intel 82845G.

Thanks much,

I forgot to disable the BOINC screensaver after experiencing the previously mentioned graphics problem. After it kicked on, the work unit in progress once again went to 100% complete, although this time i did not recieve a client error but received the following instead:

SETI@Home Informational message -9 result_overflow
NOTE: The number of results detected exceeds the storage space allocated.

I'm not sure what this means yet, so i'll have to do some searching through the forums. However, this unit was over half way finished and the error didn't occur until the screensaver graphics kicked on.

Since i have a new WU starting, i'll try the "show graphics" option again and try to duplicate the previous errors.

Again, i'm a happy BOINC'er so i'm not complaining. Just trying to document the issue so that it may be resolved by the fine folks at Berkeley. :)

This means that there was too much noise in this particular work unit.

Hiya Ned!

Thanks for your reply, it is greatly appreciated.

I guess it just seemed odd to me that this error occured immediately after allowing the screensaver to run... especially given the client errors i'd already experienced in my previous 3 work units when selecting the "show graphics" option. I will accept this particular occurence as a coincidence though. ;)

In regards to the client errors however, i will also add that when selecting the "show graphics" option, the graphics are extremely choppy and slow on my machine (unlike in 4.09) and then subsequently the work unit ends in the client errors you can see on my account.

I'll keep documenting the situation, but i don't necessarily want to induce any more client errors by showing the graphics, since i'm losing valuable crunching time here! :)

Murphy is like that.

I don't have a whole lot more to say on graphics because I tend to keep the BOINC manager closed (and rarely look at the graphics).

Okay, thanks again for your input. I guess we are still looking for the original problem though, as others have now reported in with the 4.10 graphics problem as well. I just hate to see those client errors on my account through no fault of my own. I know they don't actually count against me (except for lost crunching time), but somehow they feel like i got poor grades on my Report Card at school! LoL. As long as i stay away from the graphics though, everything seems to work fine. I'm sure this bug will be resolved before too long. :)

The -9 error may handle the Murhpy law, but all your other 3 errors do not.
All of them having an - exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005) may point to a problem with 4.10 with your machine.

If you have 4.09 units still trying to be crunched on the 4.10 Seti cruncher, you may want to try to reset your project, so you get 4.10 units in.

Thank you Ageless, i appreciate your response!

I have no more 4.09 work units left on my machine. Those all finished fine as you can see on my account. The graphics problem (with the exit code you mentioned) did not occur until the first 4.10 unit was crunched using the new 4.10 app. I now have the screensaver disabled, and have not tried the "show graphics" option again. The current unit appears to be completing without any errors, as long as i don't enable any graphics.

By way of explanation, i did a clean install of Windows XP before switching to BOINC on March 23rd, followed by a clean install of BOINC 4.25, and SETI 4.09. I keep my machine quite clean and uncluttered, and have had no problems to date until 4.10 downloaded last night. I have all the latest hardware drivers installed, and i'm pretty sure these issues are directly related to the new SETI version.

No complaints though... as long as i stay away from graphics, everything is chugging along. ;)

You can find as complete a list of Error messages in the BOINC Owner's Manual, or in the FAQ (they are actually inthe FAQ, but I make a listing of them on one page so you can see all of them ....

Thanks Paul as always. I do understand that error now, but i guess we're still trying to figure out what is causing the graphics errors in the new version 4.10.

Appreciate your help. :)

Same video, I think: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller. But I haven't had the crashing out problem. The graphics do seem to be choppy, but since I have multiple other things going, I didn't give that a second thought.

Another data point for the people who can use the information.

I don't assume anything but i will absolutely avoid to right click on any wu to "Show Graphics". This is apparently an absolutely untested piece of code thrown at the community to test out if it works...
Hmmm. I'm really a bit upset...

Now you know how your Mac OS colleagues feel... [elbowing a few of the devs in the ribs]

Could we please update all the platforms simultaneously?

34 successfully completed units since V4.10 was released to Alpha on the 15th of February, with four different versions of the Boinc core client on a 1Ghz AMD Duron Windows 98 system with ATI Radeon 7200 graphics, with the show graphics and screen saver checked on every unit. And I am just one of the testers. To say that V4.10 was "absolutely untested" is rather insulting.

Crunched some units here with 4.10 and no kind of problems when using the option show graphics! I have a Asus nvidia graphic card!
Maybe it is a problem that happens only on your machine!
I hope to have a clue on what's causing your problem but i hope this help you a bit!

I have reverted the project back to 4.09 until we can narrow down what is going on with the graphics.

4.10 has been in test since November of last year, it was orginally 4.09 in the alpha project and later renamed to 4.10 after the application version change that required all the files to be code signed.

We'll let you know more as we find out what is going on.

Rah! Rah! Rah!

How do you know I won't understand? The graphics on my Macintosh work as well with this version as with all of the prior ones ...
