Isn't the boinc manager for windows supposed to connect to linux machines if the client on linux was started with the rpc switch? I'm not having any luck getting the windows client to monitor linux. Has anyone got this to work? |

Yes ... Do you have a remote hosts file? Make a remote_host.cfg file, plain text (notepad) and enter in the IP addresses or names of computers that are allowed to contact this host. Put that file in the running directory of the BOINC you want to control remotely, stop and restart BOINC ... then you should be able to connect. Look in BOINC Owner's Manual |

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with the remote box being linux. Thanks for the help though. |

It is supposed to work as Paul described. If you manually start BOINC on your Linux box, does it report a bind failure? What version of BOINC are you trying to connect too? ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |

4.19-i686 on linux and no it does not report a bind failure or error of any kind. I'm trying to connect from a windows box using 4.25. > Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with the remote box being linux. The reason I had conficence is that I run BOINC View on my PC and control/monitor my Macintosh with OS-X ... One of these days I need to do a Linux box but have been detered by the tales of very slow running clients. Also, I see that you are running 4.19 ... make sure you are running the correct version of BOINC View. Basically, you have to be running all the same versions for this stuff to work properly ... That is one reason I am running 4.25 on all of my systems ... so I can use one version of BOINC View to monitor my farm and allowing me to control and log results. You have mixed versions with 4.25 on windows and 4.19 on the linux ... no can do ... > Thanks for the help though. You are welcome. That is what we are here for ... |
