I am running BOINC and SETI under Mac OS X (10.3.3), which is a command-line version.

Suppose edit my BOINC preferences, say for instance, I change the amount of WU's from 1 - 2 days worth of work, up to 3-4 days worth of work. I would assume that this is done via the web interface at http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/prefs_edit_form.php?subset=global .

When will the new preferences actually go into effect?

Can I simply assume (and be _sure_ !) that they will update automatically at the next Result Upload/WU Download?

Can the same be said for SETI preferences as well?

Thanks,

Dave

They will take effect during some communication with the server. I am not quite certain which type of session it is. I believe that the next time that work is requested from that project (or a manual update occurs) the settings specified on that website will be downloaded if they are newer than the settings on the computer. The settings take effect just after the session closes. So they are in effect for the session after that. The same rules apply to both the general and project settings.

There is further transmission of general settings to a project if they are newer on the client than the server. This can happen if you change your general settings on S@H, and a machine picks those up, and then attaches to Predictor. Then another of your machines attaches to predictor and gets the settings from predictor that you set in S@H.

I hope that this helps.

Sorry, Larry, that's not the Windows GUI app, but rather, as stated, the CLI Mac OS X version.

Thanks anyway, though,

Dave

It always takes a couple of days for mine to update *_* ...
I also must be doing something wrong in the command-line. Ooh, command-line.....
