Hi I'm running Redhat 9 with a dial-up connection using Penggy to connect through America Online. I have run boinc 4.19 without problems. I installed boinc 4.27 but when I open Boinc Manager, in the lower right message box, it says disconnected regardless of whether I am connected to the internet or not. When I try to attach a project, nothing happens. When I click on the "boinc project" under "website" it connects via my browser just fine. Is there a setting I'm missing or is this a problem with this version? |

The boincmanager connects to the boinc client. First start the client and then the boincmanager. It has nothing to do with your internet connection. |

Hi. You have 4.27 on a Unix box and its running and sending results. On the same box you are opening boinc manager and its not connecting. Just to make sure of where you are as it were. Under BOINC manager you should click file and select computer. If you are on the same box then type in localhost and this should connect you to your client. If your are say using XP at home and trying to connect to a UNIX box client somewhere else over the Internet then type the IP address of the Unix host or its FQDN if that name will resolve via DNS. BOINC listens on 1043 so any firewall in the way that does not allow that port to be used will prevent your communication. Hope that helps. Come back if not. |

Although the readme implies both boinc and boincmgr need to be run, I mistakenly thought that boincmgr was a gui version of boinc and not just a management interface. Maybe the readme could make it more clear that boinc needs to be started first, and then use boincmgr to access and manage the client. What a pleasure it is to have a gui running nicely on Linux for Boinc and us Linux newbies. thank you once again. Tom |
