Hi all.

I have a workstation running W2K and many linux servers (RHES3/4) all running boinc/seti.

Can I control all running software from boinc on my W2K machine ?

I've seen a menu "File/Select Computer" but it does nothing...

Uff...

Hi well I used Boinc Manager which lets you use the file select computer. Each host Linux box running seti should be listening on port 1043....they do this by default. So you should be able to connect to each. If you cannot do it by the name of the computer try its IP address. Your dns may not be resolving their names properly so the boinc manager ignores them. I had this with one of my windows clients....it usefully helped me sort out a dns zone problem! More recently I have moved to the boincview product. You can connect to all your hosts at once and see them all at once. Nice chunk of software I must say. You can do all the things from this that you can with boinc manager. http://boincview.amanheis.de/ is where I got if from....v 1.0.3a. Works great. Good luck and be in touch if you need help

After a quick "nmap" on the server I found there is no port 1043 open.
Maybe there is some "option" to tell seti to listen on that port ?

I'll try it.
Thanks...

Hmmm interesting. I just nmap on my linux box and it wasn't there. But if I do a netstat there it is established connection. Try netstat after you have connected the boinc manager or boincciew. It should be there even if only listening.

Nothing to do.

Boinc was started with the correct switch (i hope:-) as you can see here:

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _O/ _ _ _ _C_U_T_ _H_E_R_E_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
O\
pstree -ap

crond,2293
crond,4011
bash,4012 -c ...
boinc_4.19_i686,4013 -allow_remote_gui_rpc
setiathome_4.02,5563
setiathome_4.02,5672

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _O/ _ _ _ _C_U_T_ _H_E_R_E_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

...but in "nmap" and in "netstat -an" i can't see then infamous port.

This server it's a RedHat ES4.
Now I'll try with another server with a less recent RedHat release (ES3)

[...]

Ok, i'm back. This is the result:

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _O/ _ _ _ _C_U_T_ _H_E_R_E_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

pstree -ap

setiathome_4.02,6551

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _O/ _ _ _ _C_U_T_ _H_E_R_E_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

...but also here no ports open.

mmm... I'm thinking about a trip to Lourdes... :-)

OK. Well I couldn't make it work with 4.19 so I moved to 4.27 on advice from this forum. It works! You could try that instead. Otherwise....I'll see you at Lourdes!
