I just read on the BBC News site that the Dr. Who TV series has restarted. Are there any of our British friends out there who saw it? What do you think?

I'm a fan of the Tom Baker years.

They're okay. It's just that Tom Baker is the Doctor that I'm used to. The first ever DH videos that I watched like The Pyramids of Mars and The Robots of Death, stared Tom Baker. So he stuck with me for that reason.

The first episode of the new Dr Who was leaked to the web. It did not do a great deal for me: plastic manakins and wheelie bins trying to take over the world. I guess young children now have an excuse not to take the trash out when parents ask them, oh mum the wheelie bin may eat me..

Well, I'm an old school Dr. Who fan myself, so I've been looking forward to this for a long time.

Too bad it doesn't air here in Canada until April 5th. (Any American fans who can pick up the CBC, take note! That's who's broadcasting it here in Canada.)

As for the evil mannekins, well, unfortunately they rehased an old adversary from about the 70's for the first episode. Made them look pretty good with the new effects, but still...

Haven't seen the new Doctor yet, but, I'm gonna go out on a limb here. My favourite Doctor of old is also Baker. Colin Baker, that is. (Tom was good, too, but Colin's my fave!)

I thought it was great.

My kids (age 8, 6 and 4) all hid behind the sofa as per the script. They howled with laughter when the wheelie bin burped and there was just enough grown-up humour to keep me happy......Billie Piper chipping in the line about breast implants coming alive had me sniggering, but left my kids cold.

A good 40 minutes quality time with the family. And they've all been playing mannekins in the playground on their first day back at school today.

Can't wait for the Daleks.

Richard

That sounds great!! Glad to hear it went over so well in your family.

And Raven, I've asked my brother in Seattle if he would tape it, assuming he gets the CBC, which he gets several Canadian channels. So, thanks. Looking forward to seeing it.

Like Alex, my first exposure to the Dr. was Tom Baker, so I like him best, but Pertwee and Colin Baker, and Peter Davidson were good too.

I got to meet The Brigadeer and Nyssa (forgot their real names) at a Dr. Who Convention about 20 years ago in California.

So, is it on weekly now?

dan

You can't please everyone. If the Daleks are the same, some people will say they're the same cheesy, cheap effect, and if they're modernized, they'll say they're ruining the mythos. Be ready for it...

One episode and he's gone? ACK! I really enjoyed his performance, too!

I'm going to hold out hope that this is a carefully planned April Fool's Day joke, but if it persists past the second, I guess that's that.

Anyway, Re: The Daleks, yes, some care will have to be taken to make it seem like they're really still the Daleks if they get any sort of makeover. The American TV movie was originally going to have a brief shot of them in their original form, followed by them 'morphing' into a robotic spider type thing, but that was taken out.

Dr. Who Hates America

Well well well, the latest Doctor Who episode is an allegory about the Iraq war and includes an attack on the media for covering up the real story...

bad Auntie Beeb.

A bit late to post but have to say the new Doctor Who took a bit of getting used as i'm a Jon Pertwee / Tom Baker fan but as it went on it's turned out not too bad, disappointed about Christopher Eccleston leaving after one series but never mind.

Oh and daleks appear this saturday ! :)
