I have dial up and i turn the internet on at night so i dont miss phone calls. most of the time i can stay up til boinc is done downloading. on the nights like tonight where i grabbed a new cc is there a free ware prog that keeps the modem from reconnecting. there have been a few times i have falen asleep at the computer and it was online. the modem disconnects by it self if its on for six hours but then the failed connection thing pops up and it reconnects a minute later. or if there is a way to stop it from being able to try redialing when the connection ends so it cant get back on. ~boinc its not the credit or satisfaction its the screensavers~ S@h Berkeley's Staff Friends Club ©members |

' feature on the 'General Preferences' page works but I would think this will give a dialog box that won't allow a connection until you confirm. 98SE XP2500+ @ 2.1 GHz Boinc v5.8.8 And God said"Let there be light."But then the program crashed because he was trying to access the 'light' property of a NULL universe pointer. |

Remove your password from the connection. That way, even if your modem tries to reestablish a connection, all the information won't be present to complete the connection. Of course, the down side is you will manually have to enter the information everytime you want to go online.....but automation is always a security risk. Currently anyone with access to your PC has access to your internet connection. Even the thief who may or may not steal your entire computer one day. . |

Might be easiest just to select "Disable BOINC network access" in the file menu. That's what I did in the last round of SETI server outages (per someone else's suggestion), and it didn't adversely affect the other projects. I'd just manually enable a couple times a day to let the projects update as needed. |
