I'd like to install BOINC 4.25 in service mode because 4 users use that system. No one has the password to log on as this system is family computer. The installation failed due to password requirement. Is there any way around? I don't like to have a pass. Thanks for advise! Otmar |

Created an "Administrator Only" account with a password. This account will not be used by anyone, except for installing needed software. This will allow you what you want, and leave the family members accounts as is. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

Thanks, but than an Administrator will appear on user choice screen. I don’t like that. |

I said make an administrator style account, no need to call it administrator. Call it anything you like. Mine all have different names for their admin accounts. Works well. My movie https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/502242 |

Sounds like your running WinXP with "Fast User Switch" enabled, where you get a menu of all the userids to select from. That's what I have (5 household users), anf if so, what I did was use the "LocalSystem" account for the userid and whatever for the password (which is ignored by the system when the service is created). Once the installation of BOINC is complete, go to Control Panel => Admin Services => Services, right click on the BOINC service in the menu, select properties, then the LogOn tab, and verify that "Local System account" is checked. While you are there, check "Allow service to interact with desktop" and you'll get the graphics as well. Any changes here will require that you stop and restart the service to take affect. Make sure you do this before you do anything (attach projetcs, etc.) with BOINC, or you may lose some WU data. Works great for me! :) |

When I said "fast user switch" , I should have said "Welcome Menu". Sorry if caused confusion. |

You could also set a password long enough to install BOINC change it to local system and then remove the password. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |
