I have installed the BOINC software on my desktop and my laptop. I have logged in and successfully connected with the seti server. But it does nothing at all - it says that it is using some 5.73mb of disk space, but it just remains idle and does nothing, while my seti Classic continues to crank out data. I have set BOINC to run continuously, but it does nothing at all. If you have an answer for this, I would be appreciative on how to make this work. Personally, I thin BOINC is going to drive away many thousands of current supporters of seti - they should find a way to continue to use and improve seti Classic. Ed |

The titles of the different fora seems quite clear to me, but it's perhaps only because I'm no native english speaker and do not understand all the subliminal meanings of: SETI@home Science: Life in the universe, radio SETI, and SETI@home's search for ET BTW: The (very good) manual for Boinc is the BOINC Powered Projects Documentation by Paul D. Buck and the FAQ therein. A quick installation guide in this is here and for windows go here, for –ux go here afterwards. Gruesse vom Saenger For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki |

Though this is in the wrong forum, as Saenger pointed out, I'll go ahead and respond. As pointed out elsewhere on the site (don't remember where) you cannot run SAH classic and SAH Boinc at the same time. SAH Boinc runs at a lower priority than SAH classic, so if you have SAH classic running, SAH boinc will never process. If you turn off SAH classic, SAH boinc should immediately start to process. |

I'm not running SAH classic anymore (it won't communicate anyway, not even to send back the last 4 batches of info on my 4 systems), and I'm having the same problem. BOINC doesn't do anything. If the people at SETI want to use the cpu time on my computers, they need the program to do its own work. I'm not interested in poring through user forums and non-SETI boinc docs to do it for them. If it's not going to run after I cut and paste all the requested info into it, it's not going to run on my network. |

you may also need to port-forward on your modem, depending. (I had problems with the BOINC 4.25 package the first time I installed, but then I reinstalled it and it worked perfectly fine.) BOINC Wiki Gideontech BOINC team! |
