I have been a member of seti@home for almost 3 years and for the entire time I have NEVER had a problem; I would just connect when I had finished processing my packet and a new one downloaded and off I went again. Maybe I've been lucky, but I think it just worked because it was well written and SIMPLE! I've just downloaded BOINC and it just sits there doing nothing, there appears to be no information on how seti@home fits in to it so I have assumed it is supposed to just work? The web site seems to just say "download the software" and that's all the direction given.

In BOINC I try joining a project by typing in the set@home URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu and my account key and nothing seems to happen except that the messages section keeps filling up with items like "No Schedulers Responded" "Insufficient work, Requesting more" See below for a list of messages.

The web site says that the Server is up and running so that can't be the problem!

One other niggle is that I could not remember the password for my original account and since I had changed email address I could not get the password emailed to me so I HAD to start a new account. That's very frustrating because I lose my stats and have to start from zero. Is anyone aware of a way to sort this out?

Can someone please help me so I can just happily keep on looking for aliens?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

I've been running the boinc software for a few days now and haven't had any problems until last night. I think there may be a problem that they don't know about yet.

As to you setting up a new account I think this link might help:

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/account_fix.php

Sounds like the problem you were having.

Hope this helps.

Hello Dave & RoQ,

You might want to have a look in the message board "Number crunching" to this thread.

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=12632

BTW, this is the board for
Life in the universe,
radio SETI,
and SETI@home's search for ET

It took me a whole day just to get the darn Bionic software and data to start number crunching. The same goes for the older seti site. It is just near impossible to get connected to the servers. I sure am glad I used the Seti monitor program to allow me to download 30 data lots for the few occasions I am able to get them.

Nobody is happy at the moment. Seti had a major network outage, nobody could get or return work.

BOINC has a built in queue, so the extra addon is not needed.
