I just set up a dual xeon 2.2 ghz computer and really dont know if it would be better to use hyperthreading or not. Thanks in advance for advice |

As Josh noted, 1 Work Unit per CPU is faster per Work Unit, but 2 Work Units per CPU results in more Work Units in a given poeriod of time, even though it does take longer to cruch each one. With Dual Xeons & Hyperthreading enabled you'll end up with effectively 4 CPUs. So make sure you've got use 4 (or more) CPUs set in your preferences. Grant Darwin NT |

>I just set up a dual xeon 2.2 ghz coputer and really dont know if it would be better to use hyperthreading or not. Depends on the project(s) you join. With a Dual Xeon system - It either claims to have 2 CPUs (HT=off) or 4 CPUS (HT=on). With Seti, HT means you can produce about 160% more work than with HT turned off. With CPDN, about the same. With Predictor, As I recall it is about the same as Seti With LHC, who knows...they never have work ;) With Einstein, No advantage, HT on = aproximately same # WUs per day as non-HT. |
