Hello, I have Boinc working on quite a few boxes and want to upgrade to the latest client. But on 2 of the main ones, I cannot uninstall the client. I got the uninstall on just 1 so far to work and on the rest I get this error... "The log file 'C:/Program Files/Boinc/Uninst.isu' is not valid or the data has been corrupted. Uninstallation will not continue." Oh my does that suck... Suggestions? |

Suggestions? > If the 4.19 core client is still working OK, then stop it, make sure all the worker applications are stopped also, then make a copy of your entire Boinc folder, and put it somewhere else on your hard drive, then simply install the new boinc over the top of the old 4.19, it should install, then recommence work from where the old CC left off, if not, then that's what you made a copy of the folder for, to restore it. Edit Have just read elsewhere that it's necessary to uninstall 4.19 prior to installing 4.22 and above, so, perhaps if the unistall log is not present or damaged (that's what the error suggests) then you could fix this by re-installing 4.19, which will fix the problem, then you should be able to un-install it properly, do remember to do the bit about stopping boinc and all it's processes, then doing the backup. /Edit TTFN Ken Phillips BOINC question? Thanks Ken for your reply. Yes, everything was turned off and in searching around I have not been able to find a 4.19 version anymore. I would have tried that had I still had a version of that install somewhere. Of course copying the folder didn't/wouldn't do anything as the file is already hosed. Any idea where I can get a copy of .19 anywhere? Thanks for all your help. |

> Any idea where I can get a copy of .19 anywhere? BOINC v4.19 From the official BOINC download site, so you shouldn't need to be too suspicious. (Well, any more suspicious than normal...;) |

I posted a hyperlink to V4.19 (here it is again http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_4.19_windows_intelx86.exe) It's still available from the Official download site. |

Well, thank you all for your help on this, links, suggestions etc. I got .19 down just fine and exited the client. Went for an install and got to the select program folder and a new warning has popped up... "unInstaller setup failed to initialize. You may not be able to uninstall this product." Hit the ok button, it installs, I keep both boxes checked on run at startup and default screensaver (even though I always disable that and let it run all the time with no graphics later on) Hit the finish button and it picks up right where it left off. I exit the client again, go to start/boinc/remove boinc and back to square 1 again. Same thing happens if I go to the program files and use that uninstall file. How can I get this out of the registry (other than formatting)? Thanks for your ideas again! |

Again, thanks for all your ideas here. I did get this installed but did it the rotten way I guess... I made a copy of the boinc folder, put it on the drive in a new location and installed .19 again. I then promptly unistalled .19 with no issue. Then installed .25 with no problem. I did miss out on some of the work I was doing but I dropped the .xml files (climate, einstein, pirates, predictor, setiathome) in the new boinc folder from the old and quickly downloaded new stuff to work on. While that is a crappy way to do it and I wasn't sure what else to save from that folder as to not corrupt more stuff, I did get it to work and am happily crunching away again. Since I started S@H back in 99 I have never posted but just trolled the forums for years and really appreciate the help from the community. Thanks again. |

I know it is a bit late for you but for future reference , you dont need to install boinc. (you would have to install the latest version at least once to get a set of the newest files) To update from 4.1xx to 4.25 you would delete all the sub folders inside the boinc folder EXCEPT for the projects and slots folders. You can also delete all the files except for your account_xxxxx.xxxx.xx.xml files (you will have one for each project you are attached to) client_state.xml client_state_prev.xml global_prefs.xml from your "test" install of boinc 4.25 copy over the following files into your original boinc folder. boinc.dll boinc.exe boinc.ini boinc_dll.pdb boinc_exe.pdb boincmgr.exe boingmgr.pdb dgbhelp.dll lockfile msvcp71.dll msvcr71.dll and the subdirectory called locale (I delete all bar the uk sub folder ) create a shortcut to the boincmgr.exe and place it where you wont to call boinc from To get boinc to auto start at logon on xp place a copy of the shortcut to the boincmgr inside the following path c:\documents and settings\all users\start menu\programs\startup\ to add it to the start menu programs list also put a copy of the shortcut in c:\documents and settings\all users\start menu\programs\ You should not lose any part done or waiting to be done work units or any other settings , but its always wise to take a backup of the boinc folder first.
