So, anyone else find themselves in the same boat as me? That is, almost dreading when a new BOINC project might open up to the public because you're already on six projects?

I notice a lot of people are on every project. (I would be, but LHC STILL isn't taking new members! WAH!) My reason for trying to be is because I've formed a cross-project team, but, how many others are simply in it for the sake of being involved?

Thoughts? Comments?

Well, I too have formed a cross-project team, or actually, my old seti classic team has evolved into a BOINC team.

It was the science and my beliefs that drove my initially - it still is, but now I find alot of fun in it too - making my contribution to both scientific and non-scientific projects. Basically, it's still the science which is the main factor to me personally, but the sidekick, the spin-off if you'd like, in the competition is just plain fun.

So I join all the projects I can - to make a contribution to the projects of course, but also to be part of the competition, and to "offer" my team members a variety of projects to choose from - not needing to be members of many teams etc.

So I'm on 7 projects right now, anxiously waiting for planetquest, lattice and nano (and hoping folding and fightaids go boinc too) - although seti will always be the one that has my personally biggest interest (closely followed by astropulse and planetquest).

By the same token, how many are, in addition to being on BOINC SETI, still crunching for Classic SETI as well?

(I am! My goal is to get to 1000 classic WU's completed by the time Classic finally folds. Alas, I have 257 left to get! After whichever one comes first, I'm BOINCing full-time.)

I'm no longer crunching for classic. I did for a month or so after starting out with boinc, but that's a long time ago now.

I crunch both Classic and Boinc(both Seti and Einstein), not on the same computer of course. I currently have 6 computers crunching Classic ONLY. And 14 machines doing Boinc with some doing both projects and some doing only Seti.
As Classic closes I will shut down some of those 6 but others will come over to boinc. My laptop for instance will stop altogether but my newer 2900+ AMd will switch over. I currently have over 52,000 Classic units completed and am currently doing around 30 per day. Except for the 2900+ mostly older slower machines are crunching for me on Classic.

I'm kinda in this boat. I'm participating in 5 projects, and wondering what I'll do if/when another comes along. Wishing I had another computer (only one now) to help out, but can't justify the expense. Started out with only being enthusiastic for SETI, but, didn't want to get left behind on the other projects (LHC, Climate, Predictor, Einstein) so joined up with them. Now trying to figure out the best allocation of cpu.

As soon as I reached 5000 Seti Classic WUs I switched to Boinc at the end of last August, and haven't looked back.

yes , I think i am definitely __ Compulsive BOINCing.

Berkeley .. started beta testing of .. Boinc .. around the .. 10 th of Dec. 2002 ___ with approx 100 beta .. testers
I moved over to ... beta testing ... of ... Boinc ..
on -- the 11 of July .. 2003
at that time Boinc was ... beta version boinc 1. 00 .. i think .. something like that
at that time .. there were .. approx ... 700 beta tester of beta Boinc ...
and i run beta Boinc .. 24/7 .. till the beta testing ended 24/June ___ 2004
i started again , with the public launch _ on the 24 of June ___ 2004
and of course --- all beta testers of Boinc --- had their credits -- reset to -- zero

so ... yes ... I think i am definitely __ Compulsive BOINCing.

I recommend that you wait attaching hosts to that project as you are running more than that one ;) It's pre-alpha, and not able to suspend wu's at this time (meaning it's best to run it on a burp only host)

I do find myself starting to be a compulsive BOINCer. With only 5 machines, I am looking to see how to best distribute the many projects I can get involved with and still keep my SETI stats from tanking.

While I have discontinued my Classic SETI for now, I hope to resart it when my new machines arive.

Yeah! Scared the heck out of me, considering I'd only joined a matter of hours previously. Must be a record. And to think I joined mostly to propogate my team, though the mission of the project is quite a unique one. My profile isn't even that good, there, yet. (Guess I'd better go write some more...)

The Lattice Project

They're apparently doing some clustered work already in different environments (non-Boinc) but are working on opening up a Boinc project to compliment their current activities. At least looks interesting...

I have 7 computers all running Seti-BOINC, and I think I'll keep it at that level. I used to have 20 machines running Seti-Classic, but the power bills sucked. :) I figured that I could spend my money upgrading a small number of fast machines, and end up doing more crunching that if I spent my money paying for electricity on a bunch of slow machines. Currently, Seti is the only project that really "grabs" me, but the upcoming Planetquest project is very interesting...and I'll probably sign up for that as soon as it goes public.

Actually they've been running boinc for a while - only not in public which is what they are working on now ;)
