His explanations about the way that stars are fueled, played a major role in scientific understanding about how stars actually evolve.

I remember the first time that I had seen him. It was in the Stardust episode of the PBS documentary The Astronomers. I liked him from that point on.

He always seemed like a very nice man to me. It's too bad.

NACHRUF Nobelpreisträger Hans Bethe gestorben


Hans Bethe war einer der bedeutendsten Astrophysiker des 20. Jahrhunderts. In den 1930er Jahren löste er eines der großen Rätsel der damaligen Astronomie: die Energieerzeugung der Sonne und der Sterne. Für diese bahnbrechende Entdeckung wurde ihm 1967 der Nobelpreis in Physik verliehen. Hans Bethe verstarb am vergangenen Sonntag im Alter von 98 Jahren in Ithaca im US-Bundesstaat New York.
