I am currently configuring 13 Sun servers and I would really like a way of testing hammering the CPU, so I thought, why not run Boinc for a wee bit and that'll really test them.

When I downloaded Boinc for Solaris & gunzipped it, then executed it, I get the following;

ld.so.1: ./boinc_4.19_sparc-sun-solaris2.7: fatal: libstdc++.so.3: open failed:
No such file or directory
Killed

I thought it may be related to GCC, which I promptly loaded from a Software Companion CD I had kicking around, but I guess the libstdc++ is a.2.10 & not 3. Does anyone know where I can get this as it would be a shame to see all those CPU seconds go to waste.

Slainte,

David

Sun have a support site for Solaris where they provide a lot of the "standard" open source packages for various versions of Solaris. I've forgotten the URL as I haven't had any interest in Solaris for a while but a bit of "Googling" should soon lead you to it. ;)

Be lucky

There is a issue with BOINC expecting a certain library/file that does not exist with the GCC on Solaris. I dont have the exact fix, but do a search on your error message on the web, and you will find a solution, which is to do a symbolic link to another lib for GCC.

In my case, here is the solution, but I would suggest finding the more authoritative answer.

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 33 Jan 27 16:25 libstdc++.so.3 -> /usr/local/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.2
drwxr-xr-x 6 root bin 2048 Jan 27 16:25 .
369:root@simlab1:/usr/local/lib #
