Lavasoft, that makes Ad-Aware, said it was breaking ties with the Consortium of Anti-Spyware Technology Vendors (COAST) cuz COAST has a revenue agenda that focuses on money, and that this reflects badly on the whole anti-spyware industry... heh... this after Lavasoft dropped detection of the infamous WhenU spyware without telling it's users anything.

It now appears that Lavasoft does not even answer questions from it's users about the WhenU deal. Talk about reflecting bad on the industry eh.

It's time to seriously start looking at Sbybot and Microsoft Anti-Spyware for proper protection.

Read a little more about this at: www.spywareinfo.com.

You're right about that, but if nobody shows Lavasoft and some other anti-spyware makers what happens when they hornswoggle loyal users, it'll get even worse in the future. The makers of operating systems, like Microsoft or Linux, should be the ones that make it difficult for spyware to get on computers in the first place. But the secret Ad-Aware deal with WhenU is a big sellout.

1) Spybot without Adaware is only part of the deal. You need both.

2) MS Antispyware is shit. It hardly picks up anything.

3) You really need HiJackThis but only if you know what you are doing.

Hi. Yes Greg, you're right about the Spybot/Ad-Aware benefit. I think that you might be underestimating Microsoft AntiSpyware though, since it does have the ability to block potential changes to you system, including changes to the registry. I've tested it with some Trojans as well. If I were going to hack into a system, I'd be more worried about AntiSpyware rather than Ad-Aware or Spybot.

I guess Hijack This is okay.

Thanks for the tips! Just tried MS AntiSpyware, not a fan of MS but it caught stuff that others didn't.

Might be promising.

Good going! The thing is that Microsoft understands how their OS works better than anyone else does -- as they should. I think that they will win with this utility cuz they can just keep improving it. I would say that many antispyware industry people are somewhat worried about this cuz it may reduce their sales if Microsoft completely intigrates this utility in their OS's.

Oh, I just forgot to say that you should disable the Allowed Alerts function, since it may become too annoying.
