My machine runs Linux now, and I find that BOINC for Linux is horrible. I don't mind running apps from the command line, but BOINC is much more difficult to use than any other command line apps I use. For example, it doesn't autostart even with the proper lines added to my BASH .profile, there are no RPMs, and the program seems to forget all my preferences. When I started it up and tried to run it, it asked me for the project URL, even though I had configured it last night? Is there any work being done to the Linux version to make it more user-friendly? <IMG SRC="http://boinc.mundayweb.com/one/stats.php?userID=395&prj=1&trans=off"> |

uh... The error appears to be between the chair and the keyboard. I have it running on 2 linux boxes just fine. It is started automatically upon booting and remembers all the projects I have told it to attach to. The only time I have to fiddle with it is if I want to attach/detach from a project. Sounds like you might be having some permissions problems or you aren't running it from the same directory every time. However, for the GUI inclined among us the new version under development now will have a GUI that will run under linux and some other features that might make things easier too. sounds like you don't have permission to write. kboincspy is a nice gui for boinc. i think you will need kde 3.2 to run it but an up to date distribution should already use it. instead of using kboincspy you can also download boinc 4.24 which contains the boincmanager :) |
