I used to feel that way about crunching, but have now just settled in, it's fun. Sure the BIG boys are running corporate machines..., but that's their perog. I do it too..of course my comp at working is still running windows 98 on INTEL II, my gf's machine here at home, some Chinese brand name I can't even read ...running Windows XP Prof. with 128RAM...slow slow slow..., but I'm happy, sure I'll never catch the BIG boys, but I enjoy crunching SETI....just relax.... Actually there is a simple and elegant solution to this whole problem of ego. Why doesn't seti just divide the list? Instead of having one massive list have several lists based on the number of computers (one list for people using one computer, another for people using 2-5, and so on until you get to people using more than a hundred [or more if needed]). Then of course each of those lists could be sub-divided amongst average cpu power of the computers used. This would give you the most accurate look at just who is truly devoting the most time to the project throughout all processor speed classes not just who has the most computers. It would also give a fair and decent chance for the person with a lone pentium II to be at the top of a list. |

Bonjour thierry... in the 'to completion' column is showed the time needed to complete the WU process. for example to completion = 1:00:00 means that your pc need 1hr to complete the WU in process... A bientot!! Ciao from Italy Alby |

I usually have my cache set to .1 to .2 days, and it works fine. The p166 gets 1 WU at a time, and 2Ghz gets a few WU at a time. I do this because I have a constant high speed connection. BOINC will download WUs onto a computer if they can be completed before the deadline. BOINC will download WUs onto a computer until the queue time is overfilled. |

Ok, thanks quail & john... I change my pref to 4-7 days just yesterday... I download only 1 WU at the beginning... after 6-7 minutes, my pc send a request for new WUs and finally I have received 3 WUs!!! Anyway I don't know what you think about, but for the moment I don't like this new software... Enjoy. Alby Italy |
