I have now downloaded the new BOINC software and attached my seti project which is running ok. Do I have to stop and remove my old SETI software version 3.08? Will all my work units be carried over?

It is best to stop the old client. It will fight with the BOINC client and neither will run as well as it should.

The old work will be recorded and displayed in your account info, but it will not be converted or added to the work done with the BOINC client.
