why is it that i have got several wu that i have worked nad gredit has been claimed not nothing has been granted ! IE 0.0.
My pc has worked hard on theses units and im not pleased that i am not gretting the gredit for them ! does anyone know why im not getting the credit ?

I think you need a total of three computer results before credit is granted. If they all match, then the lowest of the three claimed credits is granted. You may have been the first one to complete that wu.

If you check your results you will see that the work units got too many error results. So everyone got 0 as a credit.

That is why you got zero. You need to look at the Workunit info and it gives information about it.

There are a couple of possible reasons not being granted the credit claimed. In order to be granted the claimed credit, the result must be "labeled" as "success". Then two other hosts have to return results like that as well. The three hosts must agree about their results. If they do not, a fourth host might get the wu. If the result of the fourth hosts is in agreement with the two others, but not yours, they'll be granted credit. Sometimes a fourth host is not "asked" and only two hosts - those that agree - are granted credit. So, if the criterias mentioned are not met your host will not be granted credit for a given result. And I think I've only scratched the surface in this explanation.

But all in all, you cannot be sure to be granted credit for a given result, even when your host claims some.

Hmm, 3 users have gotten 21.59 CS for this wu, even the wu is marked as "too many error results".

All the WUs with zero credit had MD5 computation errors, possibley caused by the recent server/database problems. See Paul D Buck's documentation for more info:

your scenario on WU 9937780 is the same as discussed more in depth in thread Too Many Errors, validation cancelled

during the recent problems there were tons of D/L errors. the number of errors allowed per WU before the system decides that there is something wrong with it and kills it appears to be 6.

we HOPE that they will be able to recover the results that were returned, if not for the credits, for use in the science of the project.

but, in self defense we usually suggest that you do take a quick look at the threads before creating a new one.

Also, (inserted shameless plug) I have tried to gather most of the questions, problems, solutions, how-to, etc. in one place so you can shop there first.

I know few people like to read dictionaries, but in a system like this, knowing what the standard words are helps, that is why there is a glossary and 20,000 links to words that are defined.

Now with search capabilities ... well, try to give those two thoughts a shot first....

This is my first time posting so I hope it is ok to do it here.

I accidently found part of the reason for the Download errors... Version 4.13!!!
I had it running on two machines and two others had 4.19.

The machines with 4.19 attempted a download, and if unsuccessful after 21 seconds they just went to "retry in 59 seconds" like the uploads do.

The machines with 4.13 on them, after 21 seconds, deleted the download and labled it "Download Failed". Of course these WU's were sent out again to someone else and after 10 minutes my machines attempted to download more. In one day I had over 150 "Download Failed" WU's on one computer, and over 80 on the other.

Suggestion: Place something on the home page where more people will check to ensure they are running the newer version of BOINC. This will cause less congestion during times when the servers are overwelmed, and cause the staff less work trying to go back and re-validate workunits that had nothing wrong with them.

i agree, the DL-Errors are produced if you are using Client 4.13. With 4.19 the client tries as long as he needs to get the WU, but doesn't produce an error. Some of my downloads took 12 hours, but finally they finished ok.

Automatic-Client-Update would be a fine thing ...

I thought Originally the Automatic Client Update (If The Client Choses That Option) was going to be part of BOINC? BOINC is relatively New right now but Several Years down the Road the Older versions are going to be completely Obsolete in Crunching data properly. A Huge percentage of people never go on these Boards or even check out the websites. I see people on the Classic board just now getting the message that Classic will be ending soon. The Automatic Update would be the easiest way around this. Once a Week when it Benchmarks your computer it could check to see if You have the latest software. It could then either install it for You Automatically (If You chose that Option) or let You know You are running Obsolete software and ask You to do it manually. I just Upgraded from 4.13 to 4.19 by the way. It was Painless and only took a few Minutes:)

I checked over 40 of the results where the WU was deemed to have too many errors and no one got credit. On ALL of the computers where there were "download errors" they were running a core client of either 4.13 or believe it or not 4.9.

No, the only automatically updated part is the science application.

If the BOINC Manager/BOINC Daemon need updating it has to be done manually. Project can then specify minimum versions for their project. Eventually, the participant that does NOT update will get no more work ...

when i started with boinc - hasn't there been a hint on the message-tab that there is a new client version available? Or have i been dreaming ;-?
