I'm looking at my logs, and I see that I'm switching between SETI and Einstein every 60 minutes, even though I set the resource share to 80% SETI and 20% Einstein. Is resource sharing implemented at all?

Yes.
Right now BOINC tries to implement resource share while switching every 60 minutes (default time, you can change this in the BOINC options).

For example, if you have the computer on 24 hours, BOINC will try to give ~19 hours to SETI and ~5 hours to Einstein.
SETI@home classic workunits: 1,985 CPU time: 24,567 hours

Still 50/50 when it should be 80/20...
I'm not comfortable with editing the XMLs directly (not because I don't know XML, but rather because I don't need BOINC throwing conniptions and exceptions), so any suggestions would be appreciated.

It missed it's application switch deadline, so I guess it's working now.
Thanks, Professor!

It can take a while before the preferences are transmitted to the client.

I take it all back - It's still not working! [grrr!]

I think I'll just leave it as is... and switch E@H over to another machine (read: I've now got an excuse to buy a new Mac)

It's been my experience that your defaults(preferences) aren't updated until the application actually connects to download work, since there's no D/Ling I don't think that they are updated.

For Example, I've changed my Pirates preferences two weeks ago, but because one machine hasn't gotten work from pirates it still shows the old preferences, while my other two which have gotten work reflect the new preference.

does this help?

You are right. I always do a manual update after making any changes to my preferences.

I do as well, however, as with Pirates, the "Update" button alone does not update my Pirates preference, even when it gets the "Succeeded" message, It also has to get atleast one WU.

Thanks for the support though. The person asking the question "Neoamsterdam" is no stranger to Boinc, and what I said probably didn't help him (hope so though). I try to remember that many others read these boards and may have similar questions. So my efforts were to help more than one. It also may cut down the number of times I have to type it.

thanks

tony
[edit] A detach/reattach will force it, but loosing all the WU is a bad thing[edit]

Reading the ing manual.

When one finds one's self with an issue of disfunctionality, it is a good idea to append --help at the end of the executable in order to request sample command-line arguments, such as -update_prefs project_url. Whih Macintosh are you thinking of getting? Just curious. :)

I am in the market for another Power Mac myself, and am waiting for the next release of the top end before I buy ...

I was thinking of a dual RackMac (second-hand, of course!), but since I see a Cel-based "G6" in Apple's crystal ball...

Meantime I've got the 6360 (136M/1.2G) sitting here without working ethernet drivers... Just wanna do one CPDN WU on it just to watch it choke :-D

Yeah, the rumor sites are bubbling ... I just wonder what they will be releasing, and when. I mean, a dual 2.8 with each CPU being dual core would get my attention ... :)

At least that is what I would love to see ...
