From News section:

Update. We are back up and will do more of a post mortem tomorrow.

The data server failed again! We are in the process of trying to reboot it - the project may be down a few hours as we get this thing back up and resync'ed.

... And from my log (all times CET):
SETI@home - 2005-02-17 10:19:36 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
SETI@home - 2005-02-17 10:19:57 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed
SETI@home - 2005-02-17 10:19:57 - No schedulers responded

Someone willing to explain?

The database is having problems and you can't get in because they took it down for awhile. Says they are back up but obviously are still having problems.
You MUST remember when they go down, they are down for EVERYONE not just you and I! So NO-ONE can get thru and upload or download units. That means that when they do come back up, the rush is on and sometimes the pipleine is full and not everyone can get thru "right now".
It is now 8:15AM EST here in the US and all of my machines have units waiting to be uploaded, when Berkeley has the problem fixed they will be uploaded.

Thats not exactly truth - I have downloaded WUs but I still cannot upload :(
I receive a message:

Two of the Three WU's done overnight HAVE uploaded, the other one doesn't seem to want to go.

Patience, is the key, as I have another week and a half before it's late. I'm not worried.

I'm wondering who's responsible for updating the news page and why it says "we're back up" if no one can upload? Are they really up or only up for downloads?

MrMaxx, After the system went back up, The team went home! sometime around 6:00pm West Coast time the uploads broke. I would say they don't know anything about it for another 90 minutes when they get into the Lab or they are frantically working on the system and can't update the main page.

I would disable Network access untill the problem is fixed.

But there are more projects then just Seti, and Predictor has much shorter crunchtimes.
As long as I cannot stop a single project from contacting it's not that viable.

Yup. Data server again. Not seeming to be up to the task. It especially likes freaking out minutes before I plan to leave for the day.

When I went to bed at midnight (eastern time), it was still not up.

Then this morning the front page had this message.

Update. We are back up and will do more of a post mortem tomorrow.

I'm sure they know.

This brings me back to one of the gripes a lot of people had when they were having major network/system issues awhile back... why the heck don't they automate the status page? I've bookmarked the status page and it doesn't show any problems (or didn't earlier this morning) other than the splitters being off-line. TTBOMK, the splitters have nothing to do with receiving results.

I think I see. You're saying they don't know about the upload issue. I was referring to the whole crash issue. Sorry, I misunderstood.

Did you get the Pic in your avatar from Misfit? Did it come with the "HAL" part or did you overlay it?

What's up with these people and their "off topic" posts, they should be ashamed.......ooops, it's me being off topic.....nevermind. lol

Timmy,
I'd be proud to have you make me an avatar. However, I can't seem to think up anything that I'd like. Not to mention I don't have a website to host the picture, or however the picture storage works.

thanks, though
