Welcome to the fora!

It seems rather ironic that BOINC won't run on Berkeley's own distro because the OS isn't recognized by the client app. I dunno what to say except that you might want to check the XMLs that BOINC uses so that the platform reads something that the client does recognize, but I don't know if that will work.

Hopefully someone around here (read: a BOINC developer) will be able to give you a better answer.

Once again, welcome.

Although i'm not a developer i have the solution. Have a look at the anonymous platform documentation

The source code for both Boinc and Setiathome are in the ports collecton:

/astro/boinc-setiathome-4.07
/net/boinc-client-4.19

Download to your /usr/ports collecton then make, install, clean. Install Boinc first then install the setiathome client. I've also added:

boinc_enable="YES"

to my /etc/rc.conf file so boinc starts every time I boot the system.
