Found this on the LHC forums. Ben Joined: Sep 1, 2004 Posts: 27 Posted: 12 Feb 2005 13:25:13 UTC in response to Message ID 5750. > no luck connecting to alpha The alpha testing is being done under another project URL, as "lhcathome-alpha" is currently hosted on the old server hardware. If it goes well over the weekend we'll give out the alpha project URL to more users, OK? Ben Segal / LHC@home |

LHC went public sometime, I think in September, last year. You're saying they're back to alpha again? They've been down all this time, supposedly, for a server upgrade. What's up? L8R.... Oh, I think that at the end of the last semester they lost most the staff, and at the same time they were getting new servers and gear. Then they ran into trouble with the Six track client. and this week they've had alpha testers trying out the new six track client. tony |

What's up? Boinc has changed a bit since LHC went down (as announced).. Seems both server and client wise... PP is still playing catch-up, as seen with their validator issues... PP isn't even close to what it was in the past..... And then there's the 4.2x vs 4.6x thing with seti.... (what an utter joke.. and it's too bad that that the folks that control these things can't see what a joke it is!) (The cheerleaders won't understand in a blue moon anyway..... and they'll just -1 me!) That's going to be a long term problem with Boinc... which version of client and server SW will work with all projects.... I wonder about the hooks in other projects to handle client 4,5x and 4.6x! |

What's up? They are testing there new server platform, making sure the pipeline works. Since it is a new system they need to make sure it is configured correctly and stuff. It wouldn't look good if they brought it up and they had a miss configuration now would it? Everybody is much happier when a few people run it through a few days worth of tests before throwing the big switch and letting everybody play. Woody, you are truly one of the funniest guys i have ever seen post, you criticize a project whether they test or not. I can't imagine a case where you would ever be happy with any project, even one your running. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |

the weekend is over and here's the lastest Ben Joined: Sep 1, 2004 Posts: 28 Posted: 14 Feb 2005 15:53:09 UTC in response to Message ID 5770. > Well, we all hope the alpha testers have gone through their part of the > process and that it will be any minute now when the rest of us will start > receiving units. > > Anyway, I must stay with my good old saying! > > > > > Patience is a virtue > Right - it really is a virtue! The alpha testing went very well over the weekend. The new server is stable and working well. We have one known client bug and that is a strange hang that can occur with Windows graphics running. We are working on it, but want to fix that before going to beta level (i.e. opening up the new server on the normal URL). Soooooo, a little more patience, please... Ben Segal / LHC@home |
