Hi All,
I was trying to spruce up my signiture and I am trying to find the place I get background pictures that can be sized to fit. I need also to know if I get one, to I use my "upload Program" to get a URL so that I may use it?

Thank You In Advance!

Regards,

Rocky

Rocky,

What kind of pics do you want?

I can look up bunches for you and if we get Tim involved I'm sure he can work out the technicals and help you get them posted.

Give me an idea of what kind of pics you want and I'll get some to pass on for ya.

MLCudd, you could try using Microsoft Paint if you have Windows. You just try your best to paint something small, and if you like it, you can save it in your Documents folder.

Can't identify the type, but the NASA emblem on the tail is very obvious.

Rocky, I think this is an Air Force flyer.... but if he keeps flying like this, I think he might be bucking for 'honorary' Navy status.

Yeah Paul,
Instead of reaching the outer layers of atmosphere, he wants to discover the depths of the Sea!

Rocky & Timmy, just to fill in the gaps and give you a mystery at the same time, the aircraft in the picture was indeed a YF-17A, to give it it's full title the Northrop YF-17 Cobra, only two were built s/n 72-1569 (this one) which first flew on 09-06-74 and 72-1570 which first flew on 21-08-1974, both were originally built for the USAF, the picture of this one was taken in 1976 and obviously displays NAVY so we can only presume that 72-1569 was given over at some time to the navy for further testing by them. What cannot be seen clearly is that below the word NASA are also the words Northrop and Dryden Flight Research Centre, who were doing the testing.

For you other folks that thought this was a F/A-18 Hornet, sorry, however NASA did use these in both A & B variants as chase planes, etc, infact out of the some 1548 built they used 16 for such uses.

As a lover of Birds of Prey I know this was not a Boeing F/A 18 Hornet. As you can see from this picture, the F/A 18 Hornet has a similar profile as the YF-17A Corba because of the split tail, but that is where it ends. I beleive that Northrup used the YF-17's specs to designed the F/A 18.

I'd rather speak my mind because it hurts too much to bite my tongue.

Well Celtic and Willie you both seem to be well informed.I will add that Northrup brought the Semi Completed YF-17 to Patuxent River Maryland for further development along with DynaElectron Corp, to produce the Navy's version which is the F-18. The 2 YF-17's we had with us, bith had NASA classifications. At the Strike Aircraft Test Directorate where I was stationed, we tweaked the engines, designed the laser guidance system, and the MultiPoint Weapons firing system. There they also designed the Catapult systems and Arresting Hook systems.I was fortunate enough to have been assigned to the Northrup Military Attachment working with the Civilian contractors. Grumman even had a hand in further development, especially when it came to Avionics and Radar systems.(All The Secret Crap)

Yes Willie,
I remember very well! The work on those planes was the highlight of my Military Experience. I forgot to mention that even McDonell Douglas had its hand in the pot. It was kind of funny all these different manufactures being involved on one plane. But it is still an awesome plane. It is one of the few aircraft made worldwide that can lock in on 14 seperate targets, and destroy them all simultaneously. A truly amazing Bird!

Warm Regards,

Rocky
