I see in my Boinc folder I have boinc cli, gui and boincmgr.
At present I am using the gui as that was the default.
Can someone tell me the difference between the gui and boincmgr. Also, is the cli version any faster than the other two options. Ideally I want to know which one is going to process the WUs the fastest.

Heather

Since all crunching is done by the separate science-application(s) anyway, there shouldn't be any difference in speed between them... Well, that is, if you're not either displaying the screensaver, or stuck on the disk-tab...

You should not have both boincmgr and boinc_gui on the same computer, this means you didn't uninstall v4.1x before installing any of the alpha-builds.

The BOINC Manager is a stand-alone gui, with some more options than the old gui. There will also be made versions available for non-windows. But, there are still some bugs left to fix before ready for release, therefore it's alpha, so use at own risk and don't complain if your computer blows up or something...

The design plan calls for a two part system that is semi-right now, the BOINC Manager is the GUI component and the BOINC Daemon is the part that actually does the work.

In the Old/current version, the BOINC Work Manager did both parts, both the GUI and the actual monitoring. The Command line program was a basic remove all the GUI and what is left is the CLI.

With the "recast" mostly what has been done is divide the work into two clean and distinct entities, one that is almost pure GUI and the other, well, it is everything else.

So, the names are BOINC Manager for the GUI component, and BOINC Daemon for the actual part that does the work of the BOINC Software. The BOINC Daemon replaces part of the BOINC Work Manager and all of the CLI.

I don't know if this is explaining or confusing ... There are more words in the Glossary ... if you want any more that is ...
