Just thought I'd point out that it is here.

So far so good, though it hasn't been that long. I expect it to be more stable than 4.60 though.

Insert/ small disclaimer[ I know this isn't strictly a Seti issue, But since the peeps who wrote Boinc read these pages. I will post it here] end insert(hope this makes someone feel better)

Does anyone know a laymans way of distinguishiing between 4.62 and 4.18 versions of Boinc? I know they are both "not officially released versions. 4.62 is so large in size that it must contain, or do something different from the usual 4.14-4.18 client.

Thanks ahead of time.

4.6x uses a seperate boinc.exe that can either run always, or be installed as a service, and a boinc manager program, the GUI as it were. It's no longer all in one. Or holds a seperate command line interface ran version of boinc.

the later dev versions have much greater functionality in the BOINC manager. WU's can be aborted or paused. projects can also be paused. the Manager also gives links to relevant websites and is more visually appealling, slightly. i believe it is also designed to help network administrators manager BOINC from a central location. though this i can't be sure of as i am runnin on a single PC.

It's at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?dev=1

However - be aware it's still in Alpha testing and, IMHO, several Alpha releases away from a public release. So, use it at your own risk and don't get upset if and when it hoses things. :-)

Windows installation options

It should be possible to customize the installer, and deploy to a large network simultaneously. :) But don't know if anyone have tested this yet, so possibly still buggy...

As for v4.6x, it's still "work-in-progress" with some known bugs and missing features, so don't be surprised if suddenly all work is eaten by these alpha-builds... and even if it doesn't seem to be any problems, this doesn't mean downgrading to v4.1x will work.

Hi,
I don't know if it's known but on my 2 machines (P4 2Ghz & P4 3 GHz HT) just after installation of 4.6X, the messages tab don't display the benchmark results (but the bench is done, I can see the CPU running 100% twice in task manager)
I have to exit and restart BOINC and run a manual bench to see the results in the messages tab.
Cheers..

This has happened to one out of 7 machines on which I have installed 4.62.

None of my machines did this with 4.62. However I have been seeing this about 1 in 4 times on the development branch.

I installed v4.62 on just 1 computer yesterday and the same thing happen to me slavko.sk, the benchmarks didn't show up on the message page but it did benchmark because they showed a change here at the site in my account ...

Also the CPU Time didn't show a steady second by second progress, it would just jump 4 or 5 seconds each time, I wasn't even sure the WU's were running at first but after watching the CPU Time for awhile they did show progress ...

That is normal for the 4.5x / 4.6x versions. The information on the tabs is updated only every 4-5 seconds or so. :-)

Version 4.62 (Windows) wants to install a "Windows Scripting Host" (but fails). Why do I need that "scripting host"? Do I really need it? V4.62 seems to run without it.

I know that it works. I'm using it on 2 boxes (I need Suspend function which seems to be very usefull for me). Just it doesn't dispaly benchmark results.
Refreshing every 5 seconds is from 1st version of 4.5x I think.
Anyway. I'm quite satisfied with 4.62. As I told, suspending ability is very nice. I want to finish all cached WU's till I will switch off the box and this helps a lot. On other side (other box), with suspend function I was able to setup resorces sharing along 4(5 with LHC) projects without any lost WU's. Now it tuns with all project active and seems ok.
Just it needs some more fixing of bugs because it crashed a few times when I suspended some project or resumed is again. But no work lost nor restore from backup.
And thank again for E@H account ;o))). I like such an international help.

No problem slavko, I wasn't going to use it anyway since I already had an account & figured somebody else might as well get it ... :)
