I have been running classic seti CLI for a long time and just recently built a new computer and took the plunge and started using the Boinc, which I have to say I don't like much at all, classic seti was much better. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew of any webpages that might have some basic benchmarks or process times for different processors. My new computer I build has an Athlon 64 3500+ with 1gig ram and is finishing 1 WU in about 2 hours and 25 mins and I wanted to see where that stacks up compared to others. |

Among the usual chitchat, some reference values can be found here :o) http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=8001 Regards Hans |

What don't you like about Boinc Seti compared to Seti Classic? <img src='http://www.boincsynergy.com/images/stats/comb-912.jpg'> |

My P3 500 (win98) is cranking out one every 14 hours or more. My P4 1.8 takes about 6 1/2 hours. I'll trade you anytime. lol |

You could easily set it up on multiple computers easily by just putting in your email address, no need to find or type in some 30 digit long code or anything, and the program just served one function, so you didn't have to mess with me projects and setting up all that. Plus I still have no clue how this whole credit thing works. With classic you just had a running total of returned WU's, I've turned in lots of WU on Boinc and it still shows me having 0.00 credit. It's just confusing to me, not nearly as intuitive as the classic seti was. |

Just give it some time the credits add up quick 50,000+ in just over a month. Just sit back and let it do its thing. Scott " " |

Yes, sometimes it can take a week or more to build up a supply of Pending WU's and then the Credits should come fairly regularly ... I know it can be frustrating when your not getting credits, I was putting up over 4,000 credits a day here at Seti until 4 days ago when I moved everything over to the Einstein Site. In the 4 days I've been there I've only managed to get about 950 credits but I have over 9,000 pending credits already so eventually the credits should be coming more frequently for me there ... At least I hope so anyway ... ;) |

This has a couple of advantages: you don't have to type that account ID; You don't have to have an active project; and you don't have to retype the silly number if you get it wrong. BOINC WIKI |

When I need to set-up a new machine, pop open the file, copy and paste and off we go. BOINC is still so new you have the new paint smell. SETI@Home Classic had similar teething troubles in its early days. If you go and look at the old technical new pages on the old site you can see that. The ability to queue work was not available in the SETI@Home Classic unless you used add-on programs. BOINC has those already. Credit is changed, and it is more complex, and I have lots of stuff accumulated and long discussions about it in the FAQ and in the Glossary. Configuration is another place where BOINC has features that SETI Classic did not. But, if you don't want to fiddle with them, there is no reason to fiddle with them at all. The defaults are good for most people. You only need to mess with them if you want to make changes. In general, I just live with the defaults for most things. Screen savers are updated and seem to work well for most projects. I personnally love the Einstein@Home one. The biggest area BOINC has it all over SETI@Home is the fact that you can support multiple projects easily, and the chances of you running out of work is almost non-existant if you sign up for two or more projects, regardless of how long any one project is off-line. I like LHC@Home, but it went off the air late last year, but, I am not sufferring as I am running SETI@Home, cpdn, Einstein@Home, and Predictor@Home. Welcome to BOINC ... |
