1) Get a faster computer
or if not possible:
2) Get a faster CPU
3) Get some more (faster) memory
4) Change OS as Win98SE gives the wrong "processing time" for each WU it's processes (this will lead to higher credits being given)

Somewhere, in one of these hundreds of threads is a way to change the Autoexec.bat, and/or Config.sys to load stuff into High mem allocation, thereby freeing up some mem for Seti. I don't remember where though.

PS I also have a win98 machine (can't afford the big upgrade to SE though; lol)

That frees memory only for 16 bit DOS programs, which are executed in low memory. 32 bit programs like Seti are executed in high memory.

As Alex said, entries in those files are only required for very old DOS based programmes.
If you don't have some old DOS programme that needs things to be set there in order to run you're better off not having either of those files.

What kind of computer do you have? Did you make it? I have one computer running windows 98 second edition just for the heck of it. The best instant increase in work unit time can be accomplished by overclocking. Let me know what type of computer you have.
